Women gear up for gaming invasion

Interesting article sent to me by my dear friend Audra.

It states once again what we've been hearing for years about women and video games but this one has some interesting facts: "The Sims has sold in equal quantities to men and women".
It's worth the read but leaves me wondering if anyone is actually going to start making games that appeal to women?!

We've been talking about it for the last 10 years but only a handful of games have really made any impact. It's a little surprising because one of them (The Sims) is the top selling game EVER. You'd think the game companies would start ravenously hunting the globe for creative women who can design a game! But they seem content sitting around making the same damn game over and over and OVER.
Get a clue gaming industry even the guys are sick of the lack of innovation, we're just too addicted for it to hurt sales!

Me and Luna-Tuna!

This is my self and our Jack Russell-Dachshund "Luna". She's a sweetie, but can be a little stuck-up at times... I have no idea where she gets it from-

She just learned how to catch a Disc! (Frisbee) I'll try and get some pictures of her being the hip new “Disc Dog” on scene! (She's not competing or anything but she's already starting to do stuff like the "disc" link!)

We got her from the Southern States Dachshund Rescue. You can check out there website here. LINK

Also, check out my Archives for more pictures of Luna when she was 4 months old.

Google Earth! "The Final Frontier"

(Above is a Google Earth view of our Office Address)

Google has done it once again with it's new "Google Earth". This is a free download and I believe there is a $20 a year fee for an upgraded service. Basicly they've taken a *LOT* of the satilight imagery of the Earth and put it into a GUI searchable interface like only Google can. Clean, simple to use and one of the coolest things I've seen this year!

Keep in mind that there are different levels of detail depending on where the satilights have scanned at a higher resolution or depth. If you look San Fansico and I believe New York City you'll see just how close to the earth you can get! It's pretty amazing. LINK

Kick'in it Old School!

I was just looking through my old pics and found this shot. I figured for those who know they would enjoy this and those who don't know... Well, it's still a pretty good picture. :) This was taken at Graceland in Memphis at about 6:00am. We were hanging out at Fido's Coffee shop around midnight the night before and got bored. So we decided it would be a good idea to drive to Memphis and see Graceland. I'm on the far right -5 years.

Two ways are better than one

I’m proud to announce that you can now reach my blog by two different URLs.

I finally have something worth pointing www.jindog.com to, plus it’s easier to remember then my blogspot address.

In case anyone is wondering "Jindog" is the nick name of my childhood dog. (Jennifer) The domain name is now 8 years old and has almost legendary among my friends. Over the years it's housed a website with pictures of our group of friends, a pretty active webboard, and the infamous basement webcam. This blog is just another chapter in the book.

The Enternal Staple that is JJ's Market

For those of you who do not know me or who are new to the scene, I spent nearly every night of my life from early 1998 to late 2001 at JJ's Market on the 21st Ave Side of Broadway in Nashville. And I wasn't alone; there were 15 or 20 of us who basically stumbled into the place and became friends with in a few short weeks after my first visit. It was shortly like Cheers in there and after a year or so I didn't even call people anymore. I just went to JJ's and it was a given everyone I wanted to see would be there.

Most of us got to know the owners (Brothers, Won and Kyong) very well and still stay in contact with them today. I spent many, many nights there after-hours sitting around the big table listening to Won and Kyong tell staggering funny stories about all insane things that they've done while the entire table of people are laughing so hard they’re crying.

But like all good things it came to an end. The group (or “The JJ’s Crowd” as it was quickly dubbed) became more focused on our selves than we were on God or each other and as quickly as it started… It ended.

Sure I'm still good friends with number of the people but it's different now, most of us are married, a few have kids, we're busy with work and we've all grown up some. Won and Kyong sold the place to another Korean named Sam. (Who's a great guy; they couldn't have left it in better hands) It's now been years since I've spent any kind of invested time at JJ's.

With all that said, I needed to get out of the office for the last couple weeks so my co-worker and I could get focused and write a large Risk Analysis for a client of ours. We've ended up at JJ's everyday expect two over the last couple weeks. I hadn’t thought much about going to JJ’s until we were driving over for the first time. I expected to walk in and it would feel unfamiliar or not as comfortable as it did when I all but slept there. To no surprise it did feel a little unfamiliar at first however after the second day things started to click again and after the third day it was like I had come home from vacation, only while I was gone some put up a no smoking sign...

I must say for all the years that have past, the change of ownership, and the minor (but needed) upgrades they've done to the place it's still the same JJ's Market that I spent many good years at.

Thanks Sam and Geoff for keeping the place the same as I remember it, it's good to come home again! Oh and a big thumbs up for the Yazoo on tap!

Needless to say if you haven’t been to JJ’s before you should go, but don’t come alone JJ’s is best shared with a friend – or twenty.

Nashvilleistalking.com is well... Stalking me!

After installing my fancy new web page stats collector I noticed that a user was linked from:

http://www.nashvilleistalking.com/

To my surprise my blog is listed on the right hand panel about 10 o r 11 blogs down. (It will be in a different location if you try and find it, they scroll down as others add new posts.) The funny thing is I was listed directly below one of my neighbors’ blogs Enclave. (Which is worth checking out BTW.) It’s shocking how small the world and especially Nashville is at times.

PS: nashvilleIstalking.com, it's great and all that you linked to my blog but stalking is bad ok... ;-)

OMG! This thing is cool. The funny thing is Realtechnews.com (which once again is stunning.) thinks $1800 bucks for the writer/reader drive is a lot. A good tape backup drive with that kind of storage is $1000 bucks + $45 for a single tape and they don't work half the time! LINK

"We're in our mid to late 20's and things are sharp, clear, and good."

We're in our mid to late 20's and things are sharp, clear, and good.

Friendships have matured and are exciting again.

We’re pasted our “Getting to know each other.”

We’ve felt the pain of loss, of agonizing change, of complacency.

We’ve been ripped apart and left for dead by devoice.

We’ve seen commitments being thrown away like a cigarette butt.

We’ve helped pick of the pieces.

We’ve been blindsided by lies and manipulations.

Times have come to withhold the Grace for Love.

We’ve entered our “truly loving each other.”

We’ve learned how to be as one and yet have heart & soul space for others.

A space that’s filled with God’s Grace and love once again.

A global willingness to sacrifice for others.

A new place like before but completely different.

The advent of a new awaking.

The core of a new “group”.

This time forged better then the last and not as well as the next.

With every fold we grow closer, stronger, sharper.

We’re aware of a new wind, a growing storm, rebellion, a revolution.

The realization that some of us might not make it.

The hope that they will.

There were two and now there are three… Talks of four are here

We are responsible for much and more everyday.

Responsibility constricts those who fear it and is true freedom to those who embrace it.

Responsibility consumes some and is an apple a day to others.

We’ve grown up; we’re more mature then before.

A few even made it past Jr. High, others still relish the drama.

God is making a tour of Nashville again.

I hear him often.

I feel him when I’m with others.

Discernment has awaked in a new way; it’s homed, pointed, and precise.

We're in our mid to late 20's and things are sharp, clear, and good.

We're in our mid to late 20's and things are sharp, clear, and God is Good.

VOIP NASA technology

Nothing short of stunning.

Ok sure so I thought it would be a good movie, better then the last and hopefully it would entertaining to watch.

I was blown away. This is the most entertaining and captivating movie I've seen in years. I sat in the theater the entire movie eyes wide and feeling like I did in The Matrix or Jurassic Park. Only this time I left and realized the movie had a real story instead of a bunch of cool effects. GO SEE IT!

Jackson's Free to touch little boys yet again!

You got to love a country that lets a freak like Jackson back on the street to play "doctor" with young boys... AGAIN. He and the pope should hook up; I hear he's got some good stories about his employees...

For all your Jackson music lovers out there, it's time to start accepting the fact that the man who was winning our hearts at the tender age of 4 and who single handedly redefined entire musical genres 25 years later, died in 1991 shortly after the release of Dangerous. The person that we’re left with is a bad impostor at best who thinks its cool to hang babies over hotel banisters and oh let’s not forget touch little boys.

New Dave Mathews Ablum

So Dave has done it once again; he’s released an album that I was impressed with but not over whelmed by at first listen. And once again the more you listen and dig into the lyrics, meanings, and emotion put into the songs you start to realize (and actually convince your self… Again.) that this is now you're favorite Dave album...
Then you listen to any of the other Dave albums and you realize that you're back in the same boat you've been in for years: There are no bad Dave albums and they are all your favorite!!! Bloody hell can they go wrong?

Take a listen and give it time. You won't be sorry.

Lyrics from the latest single: “American Baby”

If these walls came crumblin' down
Fell so hard, to make us lose our faith
From what's left you'd figure it out
Still make lemonade taste like a sunny day

Stay, beautiful baby
I hope you
Stay, American baby
American baby

Nobody's laughing now
God's grace lost and the devil is proud
But I've been walking for a thousand miles
One last time, I could see you smile

I (I) hold (hold) on (on) to you
You bring me hope, I'll see you soon
And if I don't see you
I'm afraid we've lost the way

Stay, beautiful baby
I hope you
Stay, American baby
American baby

I (I) hold (hold) on (on) to you
You lift me up and always will
I see you in life
Hope I don't get left behind

I (I) hold (hold) on (on) to you
You bring me hope, I'll see you soon
And if I don't see you
I'm afraid we've lost the way

Stay, beautiful baby
I hope you
Stay, American baby
I hope you
Stay, beautiful baby
I hope you
Stay, American baby
American baby
Nobody's laughing now
But you could always make me laugh out loud

Paintball - Come out and join us!

We have a small group that plays every two weeks. Most of the time we play at Red River Paintball field in Clarksville, TN. It's only about 45 minutes from downtown Nashville. Check out their site they've got some good pic's of the place, directions, and a price list.

Come join us we'll be playing next on June 25'th ask around for "Ben" or for anyone from "Net Works" in Nashville we're pretty easy to find.

My Company

(Warning Shameless plug follows!)

Net Works, LLC. (http://www.networksthatwork.net) is rapidly coming up on its 3rd year of operations. Vinny started and I became the 50/50 partner a few months later. Since then we've set a new standard for IT support and Network Integration in the great Nashville, TN area.

Check out the website if for nothing else to see the great job AbrasiveInk (http://www.abrasiveink.com) did on our site.

I'll stop with the Luna Pic's

Ok, so I'll stop with the pictures of Luna. I know it's sad but she's like our kid, it's a little scary how much so at times...
Life is good right now. Steph and I are good; we're working a fair amount, trying to get out of debt, and hanging some with our friends. Summer is here and it once again feels like life and come back to Nashville, TN. It’s shocking how much the weather affects people in this town. It’s actually a pretty depressing place in the heart of winter and just the opposite in the summer months. Spring is normally better then winter but it takes everyone a good while before the city moves out of it’s depressed state and into it’s summer bliss.

Well, that’s it for now. I’d love to post up some pictures but I don’t own a digital camera and money is (and will be) very tight for the next few months. If anyone would like to donate to the “Buy Ben a Digital Camera Fund” please send and e-mail to moocower@(NOSPAM)gmail.com (Remove the (NOSPAM)) and I’ll e-mail you back with a Pay Pal account you can send the money to. I promise that any donations will go to purchase of a digital camera and nothing else.
