Women gear up for gaming invasion

Interesting article sent to me by my dear friend Audra.

It states once again what we've been hearing for years about women and video games but this one has some interesting facts: "The Sims has sold in equal quantities to men and women".
It's worth the read but leaves me wondering if anyone is actually going to start making games that appeal to women?!

We've been talking about it for the last 10 years but only a handful of games have really made any impact. It's a little surprising because one of them (The Sims) is the top selling game EVER. You'd think the game companies would start ravenously hunting the globe for creative women who can design a game! But they seem content sitting around making the same damn game over and over and OVER.
Get a clue gaming industry even the guys are sick of the lack of innovation, we're just too addicted for it to hurt sales!

in my opinion when u start making female games u start being discriminating. honestly they should be more inventive in gaming, and stop giving us weak magic using chick character, or big boobed fem doms. but honestly to say a girl cant sit down with halo, or madden is insulting. or at least seems like it should be. some women dont take the time or care to learn video games or sports, that there not there interest. but some dont like shoppin either, i think its mostly marketing, and us guys being so obsessed sometimes that all they want is to get us away from the machine not sit down and cause us to be on it more.....yes they deffinately need to open the gaming market...but honestly im turned off by alot of games and there repeditive stupidity. in short. more multiplayer, better advertising, and
more...er i mean less boobs.

It appears that genetically, men are more goal oriented and women are more situation oriented. Therefore, games being goal oriented (this is where I'm going) will naturally attract more men. Whereas, chatrooms and livejournal and sims are more situation oriented (this is where I'm at) and thus more appealing to women.

my two cents
